I want to thank you for the great price on my second Hensley Arrow.
I purchased a re-manufactured Arrow model hitch from you in and installed in in Febuary 2012. Once installed, this hitch did exactly what you said it would do, I could almost let go of the wheel and my truck would stay in its lane. The weight distribution was also excellent and easy to adjust with the screw jacks. I pull every day and average 100 miles per day which is severe duty. I make short stops, I always back into driveways and there is a lot of articulation far more than if this were being used on a camper trailer.
My friend at the RV center convinced me that the Pullrite hitch was the way to go because of its simplicity, so he ordered and installed the 20K model on my 2010 Dodge 2500. That was expensive, about $5000.00 it looked very solid but came with a unworkable draw back. Although the Pullrite was very simply and sturdy, the point of articulation was near the rear axle, thus it made a short trailer seem like a very long trailer. If I drove on the highway most of the time I would have been fine with it. However, my service is all short local trips to private residences, high end homes with very expensive landscaping and often long winding driveways. Running off the pavement is not an option, it could result in hundreds or thousands of dollars damage which I would have to pay for. With the Pullrite hitch, I could not keep the wheels of both truck & trailer on the pavement! No matter how I tried to maneuver, in order to get the trailer to follow the turns in the driveway, either the wheels of the truck or the trailer would leave the pavement and run onto the lawn or landscaping!
After one-week I had the RV center remove this cumbersome hitch! In addition, the Pullrite had chain up weight distribution which is much more difficult to set up and adjust than the Hensley. I complained to Pullrite and with some persuading they gave me a partial credit for the hitch, that little experiment cost me $3000.00!
I then further compounded the mistake by using the credit to purchase a Pro-Pride 3P hitch. Although its design is similar to yours the Yoke system is not as secure as the strut bars. Once installed the hitch did eliminate most of the sway however, I noticed that the Yoke allowed fractional movement which I noticed, I would not call it sway but when the Hensley is set up properly and the strut bars are tight there is absolutely no movement. The Pro-Pride hitch lasted exactly two months! I left one morning and by the end of that day I started noticing the trailer ramming the truck! When I looked at the hitch it had totally failed, even the housing had broken, I can’t believe I did not lose the trailer! I again had to go back to towing on a ball.
After I purchased my Ram 1500 I knew I needed to do something as this truck was significantly lighter and the sway was very noticeable. It was at that point I contacted you, I installed the second Hensley about two weeks ago and have simply been loving it. Once again I can drive on the highway at 70 MPH with little more than a finger on the steering wheel. The hitch performance simply can’t be beat. In addition, because the articulation point is behind the truck, I have no problem staying within the boundary of a residential driveway; all the tires stay on the pavement.
Sincerely,
Joe Cote
