My review of the Hensley Arrow:
My first trip from SLC to Portland, Oregon was a disaster.
I had installed a Reese 49911 Integrated Sway Control Weight Distribution Kit, 11,500 lbs. Capacity, before I left for this trip.
I had 30-40 mph head/cross winds, from Northern Utah, Idaho until I reached Portland. I was exhausted from the two-day, white-knuckle drive and I soon realized I needed to either change the hitch, trailer and/or a larger truck. 70 mph was easily possible but often I slowed to 50 mph and still had no relief from the sway. When a semi would pass, I was being pushed one way, then abruptly, the other. It became a guess as to which ditch I might end up in or possibly upside down.
Fortunately, the return trip home was not as bad. The winds had died down. Still, a passing Semi was often an event. That Jayco trailer was simply the boss of the situation. This is also true of my previous truck and camp trailers.
After a few more trips, trying different improvements, installing shocks on the trailer, air bags on the truck, updated shocks on the truck and testing different setups, things improved minimally.
I kept seeing adds for the Pro-pride and Hensley hitches. I was pretty skeptical until I watched the video about how the Pro-pride linked hitch works. Being very familiar with the building off-road vehicles and having built many linked suspensions, I watched the video on the Hensley website. It made perfect sense on how the science eliminated sway. It comes down to leverage, angles and center of offset of the pivot point
I ordered one to see if it was as advertised. If it worked, I would be able to keep my truck and trailer.
I wanted to give an honest review and NOT the generic review saying something like…” the hitch, eliminated sway and works good,” while providing no info on the specs or performance of either the tow vehicle or the trailer being towed.
I’ve since put several thousand miles on the Hensley and now feel confident in my review.
First thing I realized after unboxing is it is heavy. Around 200 lbs. Something I knew I had to take into consideration with my setup.
These past weeks, we are on a similar trip with the Hensley, similar to our maiden voyage year ago. So far, I have driven through Idaho, Oregon and Washington state. The weather conditions were arguably the same if not worse than the first horrible trip. 100+ degrees with 20-30 mph winds, gusting to 40 head\cross winds!
To my amazement, I barely noticed the semi-trucks going by me. The turbulence was very minimal and I had zero trailer sway! That is NOT to say the wind did not affect the truck and trailer. Yes, you could feel the cross wind pushing you sideways at times. But Nothing that made me grab onto the wheel while looking at that white line on the left side of my passenger side wheels and looking for a place to ditch it if needed. In fact, I found myself using two fingers a lot of the time while doing 75+ mph without realizing it. This is clearly a bit fast and I found I needed to set my cruise at 70 to maintain a better towing speed. All in all, I would feel comfortable letting my wife drive.
Pros;
Elimination of sway and peace of mind while driving in all conditions
Trailer maneuvering at highway speed conditions and cornering is vastly improved
I don’t have to jack my trailer and truck 12 to 15 inches up, to install the weight distribution bars, putting a bunch of stress on the trailer frame and front suspension on my truck.
Not having to deal with all the greasy mess disconnecting those dangerous weight distribution bars is a major plus
Hensley weight distribution bars can easily and quickley be adjusted using the adjustment screws
Being able to open and close my tailgate is a huge plus. I previously damaged my tailgate with the Reese hitch. Not to happy about those dimples in my black truck tailgate
Turning radius vastly improved
Excellent customer service and quick turn around on my concerns

Hitch is heavy and weighs about 200 lbs.
Learning curve for hook up and take
No hitch is perfect. Other weight distribution/friction hitches simply do not prevent sway and can still flip over a one-ton truck. I can personally attest to that. If safety is your priority, this hitch is for you. Hopefully this helps. I’m more than happy to answer any questions.

Had mine for 15 years , easy on and off just wish they were a little easier to adjust !
Wish there was a better way for it to stay on the whole hitch. It works good but it keeps coming up half way when driving.

I made an error and judgment and needed some new struts. Hensley was there for me. I couldn’t be more happy with this hitch.
Installed my Hitch in less than an hour. Took for a test drive and stopped one time to adjust weight distribution jacks. Took out on interstate and no fish trailing what so ever up to 75 mph and still no swaying. Absolutely recommend for anybody trying to prevent swaying even when passing a semi. Totally 100% satisfied.
The worst road we travelled was I 70 east of Indianapolis and it was rough, but this hitch helped out a lot .
The worst road that Michelle and I travelled on was the Massachusetts Turnpike. The Trail Saver Hitch handled the road like a champ. It was because of the air bags that pretty much eliminated the typical 5th wheel chucking. The worse part of the roadway was the very uneven payment on the expansion bridges in the Western Part of the state of Massachusetts.
We pulled into a travel stop along the Massachusetts I-90 or the Massachusetts Turnpike, and another Rver asked if our RV Experienced 5th wheel chucking along the I-90.
I had told him no, because we had a state of the art 5th wheel hitch, and I showed him how I could add air to the Air bags and that the trail saver hitch slide very nicely into the 2025 GMC 3500 Ultimate Denali Dual Wheel Pickup Puck System.
This Trail Saver Hitch works very well with the MoRrdye Pin Box. This is a great combination. Thanks for very thing Aaron. I think that some day it would be a good idea to show off this best 5th wheel hitch in the country at some of the RV Shows, Particularly, Hershey RV Show. The safety features of this 5th wheel hitch are great.
We live in Pennsylvania and some non toll roads are pretty rough. I 95 through Philly is bad because there are a few stretches were it is elevated. The expansion joints from penns landing to past the stadium area has our 5th wheel bouncing and bucking. New truck ,heavier trailer and the Bd 5 hitch takes 90% of that away, we had 2 different 5th wheels and another hitch to compare with and this bad boy delivers. I have to learn what suits me best with psi in the bags, but just having that option is awesome, great hitch 20k miles so far,Thank you great product and customer service is excellent.

I have used 3 different types of weight distribution/anti-sway bars prior to purchasing the Hensley Arrow Hitch. There is no comparison to the Hensley Arrow. As advertised, no white knuckling, no sway, and moves as one unit even when passing semi trucks at freeway speed.
My family and I had used a WD hitch in the past and experienced intense trailer sway/fishtailing. That experience caused us to lose our desire to take the camper out and started renting hotels instead.
The only downfall I can say is the installation video showed that it takes one to one and a half hours to install. I am mechanically inclined and it took quite a bit longer than that. Also, we were shorted some hardware in order to finish the installation. I called Mike and he was able to overnight the parts so I was able to complete the installation in time for our first planned trip. We are already planning our next trips! The new design is an improvement over the old cover for my BD5. It’s a tighter fit. Time will tell how it holds up. I still use heavy duty magnets on all 4 sides to keep it from getting ripped up while riding down the road.
The only reason for the low ratting is so heavy to handle. The adjustable hitch is a beast; must 90# or more. An adjustable hitch with a tow capacity of say 8-10K# would be a nice option with a more reasonable weight and price. I really do not need 16K capacity to tow my 7K travel trailer. The only reason I purchased the adjustable hitch was because the hitch offset needed is between what the fixed offset hitches offer and I am considering changing trucks.

We were driving approximately 98 km/h when a large semi-truck suddenly merged into our lane. I moved into the left lane, but the semi continued over. I steered toward the shoulder trying to avoid a collision. All three of us walked away without injuries.
We credit the Hensley with keeping the truck stable and upright. Even the responding officer commented that he was amazed the truck hadn't rolled with the trailer.
When we purchased the hitch, we believed it was one of the safest hitches on the market. After this accident, we believe it saved our lives. Without it, my sisters and I feel we would have been killed or critically injured.
The 21/2 class V is a monster of a hitch. I love my new adjustable Hensley hitch. Thank you James Hensley for many safe travels.
We have really enjoyed this new hitch, we have the BD5D model and it has improved the ride , no more chucking , just a smooth pull , we have used it going across Washington, Idaho and Montana, with no issues, I highly recommend this hitch to anyone looking to upgrade, worth every penny
